About

This web site is about Miles 4 Melanoma, a series of bicycling and other events organized to raise funds for The Melanoma Research Foundation.

This site and all of the associated events are dedicated to the memory of George Madzia, who succumbed to the effects of melanoma in November of 2002.

The Mission of The Melanoma Research Foundation:

To support medical RESEARCH for finding effective treatments and eventually a cure for melanoma. To EDUCATE patients and physicians about the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of melanoma. To act as an ADVOCATE for the melanoma community to raise the awareness of this disease and the need for a cure.

Miles 4 Melanoma was inspired by the work of Steve Farrell, who, as a melanoma survivor, created the “Miles for Melanoma” concept when he ran the New York City Marathon in 2002 to raise funds for the MRF, and later helped others organize fund-raising events.
