Day 14: Tupelo, MS to Ackerman, MS

We grabbed some breakfast from the buffet at Howard Johnson’s, then visited the local Sherwin-Willams store in Tupelo, then got back on the Natchez Trace Parkway. We got off the Trace to detour through the town of Houston to find some lunch. After asking a few locals who suggested the usual McDonalds, Arby’s, Subway, etc, we finally came across a local place called Moore’s Restaurant. It looked kind of rough, but the food was fantastic, including the pancakes!

We continued on the Trace, then exited again further south to ride to Ackerman. The place for dinner there was Pap’s Place, a huge place on the main street with an enourmous buffet of home-cooked foods. We got there just in time, because as soon as we sat down, other people started streaming in by the busload. We started chatting with a couple of the local residents outside as we were leaving, and they were quite fascinated to hear about our trip.

We rode a couple miles out of town to the Tombigbee National Forest, and found a space in the campground to set up our tents for the night. It was quiet and peaceful, and made for a good night’s sleep.
